Synopsis:
Conor has the same dream every night, ever since his mother first fell ill, ever since she started the treatments that don't quite seem to be working. But tonight is different. Tonight, when he wakes, there's a visitor at his window. It’s ancient, elemental, a force of nature. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor. It wants the truth. Bestselling novelist Patrick Ness takes the final idea of the late, award-winning writer Siobhan Dowd and weaves a heartbreaking tale of mischief, healing and above all, the courage it takes to survive.
My favourite parts + Quotes:
“You do not write your life with words...You write it with actions. What you think is not important. It is only important what you do.”
“There is not always a good guy. Nor is there always a bad one. Most people are somewhere in between.”
“The monster showed up just after midnight. As they do.”
“Because humans are complicated beasts, the monster said. How can a queen be both a good witch and a bad witch? How can a prince be a murderer and a saviour? How can an apothecary be evil-tempered but right-thinking? How can a parson be wrong-thinking but good-hearted? How can invisible men make themselves more lonely by being seen?
"I don't know," Connor shrugged, exhausted. "Your stories never made any sense to me."
The answer is that it does not matter what you think, the monster said, because your mind will contradict itself a hundred times each day. You wanted her to go at the same time you were desperate for me to save her. Your mind will believe comforting lies while also knowing the painful truths that make those lies necessary. And your mind will punish you for believing both.”

My thoughts and opinions + characters:
I adored this book it was so good and I adored the characters, I loved how everyone was so strong and great. I loved when the monster was telling him the stories I thought that was so cute.
Writing Style:
I adored the writing style the writing was so lyrical and it flowed greatly and it was so capturing. Patrick Ness is such a great writer he is so imaginative.
Cover Design:
I loved this cover and it really connected with the book however it might not seem like it because it is light but there is a dark group of twigs which you will know about later in the book.
What I didn't like:
The only thing I didn't like that it was so short but it was fine but I wish that we could have more time in the main character's life and the monsters past.
